“Next Step” on Opportunities. — It’s great for one thing — Giving a single point in time ‘next step’ on Opps

But Next Steps alone has many weaknesses:
1) No idea of when it was updated
2) No historical context of previous Next Steps
3) Not tied to Open/Closed Tasks in any way

Here are some easy solutions to improve Next Step tracking

1) Create a “Next Step History” field as a Long Text Area
2) Create a “Next Step Last Updated” field as a Date
3) Create a Process that triggers whenever the Next Step is updated to:
—- Stamp Today’s date
—- Append today’s date + updated next step to the “Next Step History” field (example formula in the comments)

With these changes, you now have easy access into:

1) When the Next Step was last updated
2) How the Next Step history has progressed

Whether you are in RevOps or a Rep, adding these fields to reports can help maintain healthy pipeline and progress deals. Consider adding a trigger for Next Step Last Updated is > X amount of days for further accountability.
